Nanette O'Donnell is a partner in the firm's healthcare practice. Although located in Miami, she works with national clients, focusing on regulatory issues such as federal and state anti-kickback, self-referral (the Stark law and state counterparts), corporate compliance, licensure of healthcare facilities and managed care. Her clients include hospital systems, physician groups, independent diagnostic testing facilities (IDTFs), ambulatory surgery centers, diagnostic imaging centers and other healthcare providers. Ms. O'Donnell also has experience in healthcare transactions, having established and implemented numerous joint ventures between different types of providers, including hospital-physician joint ventures, ambulatory surgery joint ventures and other provider joint ventures, and served as counsel for the purchaser or the seller in numerous acquisitions and dispositions.
Ms. O'Donnell is certified as a health law attorney by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education and has served as an adjunct lecturer of healthcare law for the University of Miami's Graduate School of Business Administration and for Nova Southeastern University.
Ms. O'Donnell is a 1989 cum laude graduate of the University of Miami School of Law, where she was a member of the University of Miami Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. She also holds an undergraduate degree from that institution (B.A., magna cum laude) and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She is fluent in Spanish.
Representative Matters
- Represented a senior residential care corporation as health regulatory counsel in a $230 million transaction in which the client sold assisted living properties in five states to a REIT.
- Represent national hospital system and local hospitals on managed care matters
- Represent PACE organization
- Represent purchasers and sellers of ambulatory surgery centers, hospitals and physician practices
- Represent national breast imaging company in healthcare regulatory and transactional matters
- Represent local hospitals throughout the U.S. in joint ventures with physicians, both in regulatory and transactional matters
- Provide healthcare regulatory advice to large physician group practices
- Serve as Patient Care Ombudsman in Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida
