Morgan Freeman falls asleep behind the wheel?
The accident took place Monday evening in Mississippi where the Hollywood actor resides. According to the Associated Press, the crash occurred at around midnight. The police report the 71-year-old actor may have fallen asleep behind the wheel of his 1997 Nissan Maxima. The vehicle flew off the highway and rolled over several times before slowing to a stop. Freeman was immediately taken to a hospital in nearby Memphis by helicopter. A representative of the Regional Medical Center in Memphis said the actor is in serious condition.
However, Freeman was able to speak after the crash. Several sources say the actor even joked with bystanders trying to take his photograph on their mobile phones as he was pulled out of the vehicle. A female passenger was also inside, although no information has been made available about her condition.
Freeman is justly considered one of the modern film industry's most respected actors. His first real claim to fame was his role late in life in "Driving Miss Daisy" (1989). Freeman has starred in over 80 films, including: "Shawshank Redemption," "Se7en," "Amistad" and "The Unforgiven." He played the role of God twice in the comedies "Bruce Almighty" and "Evan Almighty" and won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in "Million Dollar Baby" (2004).
Timur Bekmambetov's blockbuster "Wanted" is currently on screens worldwide. Freeman plays a starring role in the film. The next Batman film "Dark Knight" also stars Freeman and will hit Russia's screens in the near future.
Bekmambetov commented on Freeman's acting abilities:
"Freeman is an actor-aristocrat. He's one of the few actors who can guarantee a high status for a film based on his presence alone. He's an absolute class act. At the same time, he is a very simple guy and everyone starts to love him right away. He enjoys making people laugh and is always telling some story or another. When it comes to work, though, he is very, very serious. This is what surprised me most... In Russia, when I film two people talking to each other, the person who I already filmed gets into his car and drives off. But big-time Hollywood actors like Freeman stay around to work with each other. Freeman acted along someone in a crowd scene who doesn't have any words. He waited patiently so the latter would get the scene right. It's surprising. That doesn't happen here."
