Кто выиграл две недели обучения в Лондоне

Победительница конкурса поедет в столицу Великобритании на курсы английского языка.

В начале сентября «КП» и Британский Совет объявили конкурс для наших читателей. Главный приз - двухнедельный курс обучения в столице Великобритании, в учебном центре INTO London.

Участникам нужно было написать эссе на английском языке на тему "Что роднит Великобританию и Россию?", назвать пять общих моментов, объединяющих две наши страны. А один из них описать подробно, аргументировав свою точку зрения.

На конкурс пришли сотни работ от наших читателей из разных городов России. Финалистов определило жюри, состоящее из представителей Британского Совета, «КП», партнерства университетов INTO, объединяющего подготовительные факультеты ведущих британских, американских и китайских университетов, и учебного центра INTO London (у школы был решающий голос при выборе победителя).

Главный приз - поездку на курсы английского языка Великобританию - выиграла 26-летняя Людмила ХАБАРОВА из Тамбова.

Людмила поедет в столицу Великобритании на две недели и будет изучать английский язык в учебном центре INTO London. Кроме курса, победительнице будет оплачено проживание в студенческом общежитии, перелет Москва - Лондон и обратно, а также и дорога до Москвы.

Конечно, интересных и оригинальных работ было много. Кроме главного приза, будут вручены два поощрительных. Москвичка Елена ГОЛОДЯЕВСКАЯ и Руслан ЕЛИСЕЕВ из Одинцово получат электронные словари, которые наверняка помогут им и в совершенствовании английского.

I started to think about what Russia and the UK have in common and found this task quite challenging. My inner voice told me that these countries are so different that I have almost nothing to write about. Anyway, the first associations I had were Russian businessmen in the UK. But I didn’t find writing about it exciting.

Secondly, I thought about Scots who can drink strong alcohol drinks like Russians. I immediately rejected this idea because some people might find it offensive. Then I decided to search the Internet and look for information about celebrities who have either Russian or English ancestors. Some things I learnt at school, for instance, it was considered that Lord Byron was the ancestor of Russian poet Lermontov. I also have read one book which told that Charlie Chaplin had some Russian ancestry too. But when I started to investigate facts in some official resources I realized that this information is only hypothesis.

So I looked out the window and kept thinking of some special and interesting things that unite our countries. It dawned on me when it started to rain. Russians and the English like talking about weather because it’s unpredictable in both countries. Apart from that this topic is considered to be the best ice breaker since it doesn’t matter what your age is or what kind of job you have. You can start talking to a stranger with discussion of weather and it’ll be fine in both countries.

I also saw a young man walking down the street and wearing a jacket with Union Jack on his back. So, I realized that one of the major things that unite Russia and the UK is love. I think people living in the UK are very proud of their country and love it very much. Russians do love the UK too. They like wearing clothes with English symbols, spend a lot of time on learning a language, adore the Beatles, and watch Hitchcock’s films, read Agatha Christie’s books and dream of visiting the UK more than the other countries.
